Every year these ornaments are hung on our family Christmas Tree, and every year decorating and un-decorating, takes me down memory lane.
The ornaments began with the birth of our first child, and a way to showcase a new Counted Cross Stitch product that we were selling in our retail store in the early 1980’s. It was a Lucite Ornament, that you could add cross titch to one side and a photograph to the other.
The photo of “Baby Melanie” with her father, and a piece of Counted Cross Stitch with “Thank Heaven for Little Girls 1980” on the back (pictured) started a tradition that I am so thankful for.
Each year adds special memories for each of our daughters and milestones for our family, including sweet 16 birthdays, graduating from High School and College, family vacations, candid shots and even the family pets. Each ornament including cross stitch or embroidery with the year and important events on the other side. After 40 years of marriage, this year our tree was almost all pictures, and a few prized store bought ornaments. As the years have passed, sometimes finding the ball ornaments that started it all, or the Lucite disks, has been harder than others. With the added embroidery machines, we now have an assortment of ornaments, which are always made in triplicate, to share with our daughters.
Because after all, a photograph is just a pause button on life.
Every now and then you find an embroidery design that just speaks to you.
Enough said! (Thank you Urban Threads Embroidery Designs)

GFWC – The General Federation of Women’s Clubs is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of other through volunteer service.
I have been honored to be a member of GFWC through my local clubs since 1985. Each April 24th we celebration the founding of our national organization which began in 1890.
Our motto is “Living the Volunter Spirit” which I have embroidered and used inside the cover of these notebooks.
GFWC clubs and clubwomen are the fabric that binds not only the Federation, but the communities in which they live and work. By Living the Volunteer Spirit, GFWC clubwomen transform lives each day, not simply with monetary donations, but with hands-on tangible projects that provide immediate impact.
Over the years I have been allowed to make items incorporating the GFWC logo. In honor of of Federation Day here are a few, starting with the GFWC Yard flag, displayed at the GFWC Headquarters in Washinton, DC after a snow storm.
GFWC Girlfriends are just the best! I have made lifelong frends locally, across North Carolina and the nation!
Using GFWC T-shirts, these wall hangings and pillows were used as fundraising items at the GFWC International Convention in Memphis in 2015
This year at the 126th Annual Convention a basket of GFWC goodies will be donated once again for the silent auction.

I love these designs by Urban Threads. They are perfect for some of my friends, and maybe yours as well.
These dish towel pillows were gifts the the GFWC-NC District for 2014-2016 and 2016-2018 District Presdients and Junior Directors! The pillows on the left say “Out of my way world, I’ve got my Sassy Pants on today”, and the pillows on the right say “Be Fearless”
I love this saying: Don’t Tell Me What To Do! How many times have I heard that (and said it!) Shown here on a khaki dish towel pillow ($18.00 other colors always available). This design also looks great on aprons.
Someone’s cat had to poto bomb this picture.
Another favorite, shown on aprons. Assorted colors available $15.00

Baby bibs have been the foundation of Wendy Jane Creations, that’s how the business started. Making baby bibs out of even weave Aida cloth for the Counted Cross Stitch industry. They were sold through some great Count Cross Stitch companies and designers in the past. I recently saw a pattern for a bib, and thought, why not use bandannas for that? So here they are along with some of the staples:
Bandanna Bibs $5.00 each. Colors as assorted as the fun bandannas out there.
Embroidered Bibs, assorted designs, colors and styles. Prices average at $6.00
I love English Smocking, and while dresses aren’t as popular anymore, these bibs are still a mainstay and great for shower gifts. Smocked Baby Bibs $8.00
