After serving at the General Federation of Woman’s Club of North Carolina State President from 2012-2014, the 50 GFWC State Presidents formed a National Club: GFWC Laister’s Phoenix Firebirds. To celebrate, I embroidered a dishtowel with a Phoenix and our club name for each of the State Presidents, and an Apron for our 2012-2014 International President, Mary Ellen Laister.
Rather than use my towel as a towel. I made it into a pillow.
I took the finished Dishtowel, and added a few strips of ribbon.
Then folded the towel into thirds, using a inexpensive Travel Pillow to be stuffed inside, using an envelope type fold.
By sewing a seam about 1 3/4″ from each edge, the pillow then slips in the bottom of the envelope fold. You can slip stitch the bottom flap closed, add buttons as decorations, or just leave it as is. Mary Ellen Laister with her Apron and towel!
Nothing says love like an embroidered towel (which could also be made into a pillow)
Shown here in Pink and Red.
Towels $6.00, Pillows $12.00
This boy deserves a bed!
After moving into his new home, poor Vega had no bed of his own. So take one mattress cover (from someones dorm room, used years ago, but saved for??? ) add one sale blanket from Wal-Mart (under $5.00)
Add a little embroidery, sew it all together and, now Vega has a soft and comfy bed, for the cats to sleep on!
Needing a new Bath Mat and not finding anything in the colors I needed, or the price range, prompted me to make my own!
Supplies: Two inexpensive or use contrasting Hand Towels, Two contrasting wash cloths
After ironing some iron on interfacing to the back of the wash cloths, I cut out the simple shapes and pinned to the contrasting towels.
I then appliqued the edges, sewed the towels back to back, and within an hour had a new bath mat for under $5.00
Christmas came and went so quickly this year! Not wanting to let go of the Christmas spirit we have been working on Christmas Stockings for 2014.
